In the early hours of Sunday, January 25, at approximately 3:00 a.m., officers with the South Bend Police Department responded to a ShotSpotter notification in the 700 block of North Brookfield Street. Upon arrival, officers located Rell D, an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Despite immediate and determined lifesaving efforts, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The South Bend Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit continues to actively investigate this homicide. At the time of the initial release, Rell D’s name was withheld pending next-of-kin notification.
