With heavy hearts, the community mourns the tragic loss of Ivan Ortiz, affectionately known as “Liloso,” whose life was taken far too soon in a senseless act of violence. Ivan’s passing has left a deep and painful void in the hearts of his loved ones, friends, and all who knew him.
At approximately 8:10 p.m., officers from the Artesia Police Department were dispatched to the ABO Apartments, located at 700 N. 10th Street, following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers found Ivan suffering from gunshot wounds. They immediately initiated lifesaving measures, doing everything within their power to preserve his life. Emergency Medical Services arrived shortly thereafter and continued providing medical aid with urgency and care. Despite these valiant efforts, Ivan succumbed to his injuries, and his life was tragically cut short.
The Criminal Investigation Division responded to the scene to begin processing evidence and conducting a thorough investigation. Detectives remained on site for several hours, working diligently to gather information and follow up on leads. At least one individual has been detained for questioning as the investigation continues. Beyond the circumstances of his passing, Ivan Ortiz was a son, a friend, and a cherished presence in the lives of many.
