It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that we remember the life of Deepamar Sodhi, a resident of Riverside, whose life was tragically lost in the early hours of Thursday, January 16, in St. Clair County, Alabama. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of family, friends, and all who knew him, and the community continues to mourn a life taken far too soon.
According to authorities, Deepamar was found inside a vehicle that had entered the Coosa River near Riverbend Road and U.S. Highway 78. Officers were dispatched to the area around 7:45 a.m. after reports of a vehicle in the water. Upon arrival, responders located the vehicle partially submerged and observed a man inside. The Pell City Police Department Dive Team was called in and worked carefully and respectfully to recover him from the vehicle.
The St. Clair County Coroner’s Office later shared that it appeared Deepamar died from hypothermia. Surveillance footage from a nearby business shows the vehicle leaving a parking lot around 11:30 p.m. on January 15, making a wide right turn onto Riverbend Road before leaving the roadway and entering the river. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
