Kansas City, Missouri / Lawrence, Kansas – With heavy hearts and profound sorrow, family members, friends, and communities across Kansas City and Lawrence are mourning the tragic loss of Aidan Knowles, an 18-year-old whose life was taken far too soon in a senseless act of violence early Saturday morning.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed by Aidan’s father, Bobby Knowles, who shared a message on social media on Sunday identifying his son as the victim in the shooting that occurred outside “The Hawk” in Lawrence. The Lawrence Kansas Police Department later shared the post and officially confirmed the information.
According to the family, Aidan was with a close friend when the incident occurred. That friend, a 16-year-old, was also shot but, by what the family describes as the grace of God, survived against all odds. While there is immense gratitude for the friend’s survival, the loss of Aidan has left a void that cannot be filled.
“Unfortunately, the news is true,” Bobby Knowles wrote. “Our son, Aidan, was shot and killed outside a bar in Lawrence early yesterday morning. One of his close friends was also shot and, by the grace of God, survived against all odds. We have learned that our son was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. We are completely devastated.”
Those words reflect the unimaginable pain now carried by Aidan’s family—a pain shared by all who knew and loved him. Aidan was more than a headline or a statistic.
