The Breckenridge Police Department, alongside the Texas Rangers, confirmed a major development in the ongoing investigation into the death of Chyra Davis as Shane Anthony, 47, was taken into custody Tuesday evening, January 27. Breckenridge Police Chief Blake Johnson announced the arrest, marking a significant moment in a case that has deeply shaken families and communities across Stephens County and beyond.

Anthony was arrested without incident after authorities searched for him throughout the day. According to Chief Johnson, the arrest was made on a warrant issued by the Stephens County Judicial District Court. Anthony is charged with “Tamper with or fabricate physical evidence with intent to impair – Human Corpse,” a second-degree felony under Texas Penal Code 37.09(a)(1). Bond has been set at $200,000.

Earlier that same day, investigators with the Breckenridge Police Department and Texas Rangers discovered the body of Chyra Davis, 24, at a residence located at 602 S. O’Connor Street in Breckenridge. Chyra had been reported missing on January 22, after last being heard from on January 18. According to information from the Stephens County Appraisal District, the residence where she was found belongs to Shane Anthony — the same man Chyra’s family had previously identified online as the person she had been living with prior to her disappearance.

For days, Chyra’s family held onto hope, sharing missing person posters, contacting authorities, and pleading for information. Her aunt shared publicly that Chyra’s phone had been turned off and that she stopped responding to messages — a silence that raised growing concern. Family members also indicated that Chyra may have been injured at the time, based on conversations she had on TikTok shortly before she abruptly logged off and never returned.

Chyra Davis was more than a name tied to an investigation. She was a young woman with deep roots in Mineral Wells, a resident of Breckenridge, and a loved one to family in Graham. She was also a devoted mother to a 2-year-old daughter, whose life has now been forever altered by this devastating loss.

As the investigation unfolds, additional attention has been drawn to Shane Anthony’s prior criminal history. Court records show that in March 2020, Anthony pleaded guilty to “Assault Causes Bodily Injury – Family Violence (Lesser Included Offense)”. He was sentenced to two years of community supervision and ordered to pay a $500 fine plus court costs.

Chief Blake Johnson stated that details surrounding Chyra’s death are still being withheld as the investigation remains active. Authorities continue to work closely with the Texas Rangers and follow all available leads. Additional charges may be possible as the case progresses.

As Breckenridge and surrounding communities grapple with grief, anger, and unanswered questions, many are calling for justice — not only for Chyra Davis, but for her young daughter, her family, and everyone who loved her.

Chyra’s life mattered. Her disappearance mattered. And her death has left a lasting ache in the hearts of many.

The community is urged to keep Chyra’s family in their thoughts and prayers as the legal process continues and the search for full accountability moves forward.
